Welcome to the Website for the
Zonta Club of The Coos Bay Area
My name is Sharon Lovie and I am club President for 2009-2010.
The Coos Bay Area Zonta Club is a group of business and professional leaders who volunteer their time, inspiration, talent and energies to better the lives of women and children in our community and throughout the world. Through our local and international community we raise funds for scholarships, advocacy and social action projects.  Please explore our web site to find out more about what our club is doing.

The Coos Bay Area Zonta Club meets twice per month, the first and third Friday at noon at the Red Lion Hotel in Coos Bay. In addition to regular club meetings, every one of our 84 members belongs to a committee that conducts the business of the club be it fundraising, advocacy, service, membership or fellowship. Our fellowship events include our monthly book club, Fifth Friday events, annual summer retreat and December Holiday party to name a few.

We are well known for our sale of homemade fudge at both the Blackberry Arts Festival in late August and the Bay Area Fun Festival in mid September of every year. We will celebrate the 12th year of our largest fundraiser The Celebrity Dinner, Dance and Auction at the Mill Casino and Hotel on Saturday, February 20, 2010.  Join us for an exotic Night.”

Some of our club advocacy and social action projects include scholarships for Coos County women,  The Little Red Schoolhouse school supply program for low income students throughout the county, The back to work Seminars at the Newmark Center and the clothes closet in conjunction with Bree’s Upscale Resale, providing free work attire for women returning to the workforce, our Red Car Parade entry into the Bay Area Fun Festival Parade to promote heart health for women, as well as hosting at the holiday light display at Shore Acres State Park each December. Whenever possible we include our families in club activities and our dogs are especially good fundraisers for the Salvation Army bell ringing. Who can resist a Scotty dog in a Santa hat?

We are very excited about the chartering of our first Z Club for students at Marshfield High School on October 1, 2008 and we look forward to working closely with our young people to advance the status of women.  We are also proudly sponsoring the new Zonta Club of the Tualatin Valley.  They will be celebrating the chartering their club on July 18, 2009.
