Scholarship Opportunities and Announcements
Each year we award scholarships and cash awards to women in our local community. In 2009 we distributed $7100.00 to six outstanding women to help in their education or reentry into work force. Our scholarship program includes the Young Women in Public Affairs award, the Associate in Applied Science Scholarship, our Memorial Scholarship, two Zonta Club of the Coos Bay Area Scholarships and the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. The Jane M. Klausman award is designed to encourage women to enter careers and seek leadership positions in business-related fields in their communities throughout the world.
Young Women in Public Affairs Award Applications Available
Applications for the Zonta Club of Coos Bay Area 2010 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are now available in all Coos County Public Libraries and all Coos County High School Guidance/Career Centers. This is a cash award of $750 to the winning applicant.
The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program is to encourage young women to participate in public and political life by recognizing volunteer activities, leadership achievements, and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow. Applicants must be high school students(age 16 – 20).
In addition to the local club’s cash award, the winner is eligible for an additional $1000 award if selected as the Zonta District winner. Five district winners will be selected to receive additional awards of $3,000 each from Zonta International.
